Lakeland Rowing Club(under construction) The Lakeland Rowing Club is primarily due to the work of Peter Walsh, Todd Ree, and (before he moved away) Janos Dvorzsak. The majority of LRC members are college students at Lakeland College, and mostly novice intake. Lakeland College Vermilion Campus sees training in firefighting, animal science, and other agricultural sciences programs. In spring, LRC rowers attend the Freeze or Fry regatta, occasionally the Alberta Open (but since school's out for the summer by then there aren't many of the rowers hanging about). In the autumn, LRC rowers attend the Head of the North Saskatchewan in Edmonton, occasionally the Head of the South Saskatchewan in Saskatoon if it's not too early in September, and the Head of the Weasel in Calgary. As with most of Alberta, Lakeland has to pull up their docks and store everything at the end of October because you just can't row on ice. Links and photos will be added soon.. Driving to the LRC: Exit the Yellowhead Highway onto Highway 41 Northbound - this is the Vermilion exit from the freeway. Continue North on Highway 41 to the first traffic signal lights at 47th Avenue, and turn Left. Drive past the college (which will be on the left, or south side of the road) and take the first right (north) turn after you're past the campus. (I'll find out the name of this north bound road and fix this later.) Continue about 1 km north until you run out of road, and turn right into the provincial park. Stay on this (generally east bound) road until it goes past the old railway station and drops down the hill to the lake. Head right (south) until you run out of roadway park, and walk the 80 m or so to the chain-link fence compound housing Lakeland's boats. GPS users go to 53d 21' 40.0"N, 110d 52' 4.5" W. This puts you in front of the motor storage shed inside the compound at the Lakeland Rowing Club |
